God’s Amazing Book – The Bible
The Bible is the good book, the greatest book, God’s book. The Bible is different from all other books and is the most unique book known to humankind. It is a divine library containing 66 books—39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. The Bible was written primarily in two languages, Hebrew and Greek. The Bible was written by more than 40 authors over a period of 1,500 years.
A few years ago a young Christian was packing his bag for trip. He said to a friend, “I have nearly finished packing. All I have to put in the bag yet are a guide book, a lamp, a mirror, a microscope, a telescope, a volume of fine poetry, a few biographies, a stack of old letters, a book of songs, a hammer, and a set of books I have been studying.” “You can’t put all of that in your bag?” answered his friend. “Oh! yes and here it is,” said the Christian as he reached for his Bible to put into his bag.
Let us appreciate this week this book, the Bible, God’s amazing book. Read it; study it; meditate upon it. You will never regret an extra moment in God’s divine book, the Bible.
One thought that encourages my heart is that God not only inspired His book, but He promised to preserve His book.
“The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever” (Psalm 12:6-7).
“…the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord” (Psalm 117:2).
“Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever” (Psalm 119:152).
“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever” (Psalm 119:160).
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8).
God in His omniscience knew that His word would be under attack. Since the day that Lucifer, the son of the morning, was cast from Heaven, he has been working feverishly to sabotage the WWord of God. The devil’s very first attack as recorded in Genesis was on God’s spoken word.
“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1).
The serpent’s technique was not to engage in a full-fledged frontal attack of outright denial, but rather to undermine the absolute authority of God’s word. Satan is subtle. This is precisely what God-haters, atheists, and even some so-called “Christians” are doing today when they ridicule and question the authority of Scripture. “Did God really say that? How do you know?” Most Christians have heard such things said in conversations witnessing or at work. These attacks on God’s revelation most certainly did not end in the Garden of Eden. Be wary of someone who does not hold to the truths of the Bible. They have no foundation, and the winds of heresy and winds of compromise will blow them in every direction. One is an article by Dennis Prager which I found interesting with the Bible in mind. There is a link to a sermon by Dr. David Brown. He has a passion for the Word of God and is able to explain some of the arguments on the authority of the Bible in simple terms. The last is a link to Evangelist Paul Schwanke’s opening sermon. It was a great challenge in the area of making the right choices.
